Downtown Atlanta Faces Water Crisis: Hospitals and Shelters Affected as Boil Water Advisory Issued

Water service disrupted in Downtown Atlanta leads to business closings and water boil advisory

On Saturday, downtown Atlanta businesses and attractions were closed due to water main breaks causing water outages and low pressure. The Atlanta Department of Watershed Management reported that water issues were affecting two downtown hospitals, a city jail, a county jail, and local shelters. Some establishments, like the Georgia Aquarium, remained closed on Saturday due to the ongoing water problems.

The city-wide water issue prompted the department to issue a boil water advisory for a large area of metro Atlanta and to ask the public to conserve water to help rebuild the system’s pressure. Crews were working to restore service from Friday morning onwards. The department assured the public that the entire City Government was mobilized to address the situation, though their website was down and social media updates had not been provided since Friday night.

Rapper Megan Thee Stallion’s concert was rescheduled to Sunday due to the water issues, and her performance at the State Farm Arena on Saturday was still scheduled to proceed. While disappointed by the situation, she expressed her support for the residents who were affected by the water outage and followed the Mayor’s advice.
