While he acknowledged the possibility of making a comeback, Poirier emphasized that this fight could mark the end of his career. He is looking to find contentment with his journey, win or lose, and hopes to seal his legacy by becoming the undisputed lightweight champion after his 31st fight in the UFC.

Poirier’s last fight was in March, where he secured a knockout victory over Benoit Saint-Denis at UFC 299. This win allowed him to bounce back from a previous knockout loss to Justin Gaethje in July.
