The new Egyptian Foreign Minister makes a statement on the Gaza conflict

Egypt’s new Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aati recently spoke with the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Tor Wennesland, about the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip. During their phone call, Abdel Aati expressed Cairo’s determination to reach a deal that would bring an end to the violence and result in the exchange of hostages and prisoners between Israel and Hamas.

Abdel Aati also raised concerns about Israel’s unilateral actions in the West Bank during the call. He criticized Israel’s expansion of settlements, increase in arrest operations, and systematic raids on Palestinian communities. The minister called for international pressure on Israel to halt its actions and adhere to resolutions from both the Security Council and International Court of Justice. Additionally, he emphasized the need for Israel to withdraw from its occupation of Gaza so that Palestinians can manage it freely.

Furthermore, Abdel Aati highlighted the importance of opening more Israeli crossings with Gaza to fulfill obligations as an occupying power. He stressed that an immediate ceasefire was necessary along with compliance with international resolutions and respect for humanitarian standards. The minister also urged continued international efforts to deliver aid to Gaza residents amidst ongoing conflict.

Overall, Egypt is committed to finding a solution to the Gaza conflict through diplomatic means while holding Israel accountable for its actions against Palestinians.
