Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, has announced that he will postpone his planned trip to India due to “very heavy” obligations at the company. His visit was expected to include a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the confirmation that Tesla would build a factory in India, which is the world’s most populous country.
Musk expressed his disappointment in having to delay the visit on X and stated that he looks forward to visiting later this year. In addition to meeting with Modi, Musk had plans to meet leaders of Indian space tech startups during his visit, including Pawan Chandana, the co-founder of Skyroot Aerospace.
Musk was also expected to announce an investment of $2-3 billion in India mainly for building the new Tesla factory. However, this delay comes as India conducts its massive democratic election, in which Modi is expected to win a rare third consecutive term as prime minister. Despite this setback, Musk remains excited about investing in India and exploring potential partnerships with local leaders in space technology.
