Emmanuel Macron: Government Members Join Legislative Elections to Boost Poll Numbers, But Controversial Alliances Cause Stir

Emmanuel Macron’s Government Enters Legislative Elections with 24 Member Candidacies in France 2024

The upcoming legislative elections in France are posing a significant threat to the government of Emmanuel Macron. In an attempt to improve poll numbers and combat this challenge, the president has put forward 24 of his members as candidates. Notable figures such as Prime Minister Gabriel Attal, Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin, and Foreign Affairs Minister Stéphane Séjourné are among those seeking seats in the National Assembly. However, not all government members are participating, with notable absences including Economy and Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire and Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu.

The involvement of government members in the elections is seen as an attempt to improve poll numbers, as current predictions suggest a potential victory for the extreme right National Group (RN). Other left-wing parties, including the Socialists and the Ecologists, are also expected to perform well. A coalition known as the Popular Front has been formed, with Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s party, The Rebellious France (LFI), at the forefront. However, not all parties within the coalition are in agreement, with some tensions emerging between parties over candidate selection.

In addition to the upcoming legislative elections, a controversial pact between the National Group (RN) and the Republican Party (LR) has caused a stir. The agreement involves the RN not presenting candidates in certain constituencies, which has faced opposition from within
