Empowering Communities Through Citizen Science and Legal Frameworks: The GROMADA Project’s Workshop on Environmental Recovery in Ukraine

Workshop: Investigating Ukraine’s Environmental Data Ecosystem for Citizen Science

The GROMADA project 2023-1-SE01-KA220-HED-000151848 is an initiative aimed at fostering cooperation among European universities to strengthen public and legal capacity for environmental recovery in Ukraine. The workshop, which is part of this project, will delve into environmental trends related to the full-scale invasion in Ukraine, as well as the current status of citizen science and civic monitoring in the country.

The target audience for this workshop includes individuals from academic and scientific backgrounds, policymakers, and representatives from non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Participants will be encouraged to take part in discussions on methodologies and project priorities for studying air, water, soil, and natural resources.

Given the significant toll on Ukraine’s environment caused by the war, the GROMADA project aims to promote civic engagement in environmental citizen science within a legal framework. The project emphasizes the importance of analyzing barriers and opportunities for community involvement in environmental actions and peacebuilding efforts. By highlighting the legal aspects of monitoring environmental harm during times of conflict, GROMADA aims to empower communities impacted by war.
