Empowering Minds: A Block Party Celebration to Promote Mental Health and Wellness in the Black Community

HCA Virginia Organized a No-Cost Mental Health Event for the Community in Richmond

On Saturday, HCA Virginia hosted a block party celebration in Richmond with the goal of promoting healthy living. The event took place at Retreat Doctors’ Hospital and featured engaging activities, informative booths, and a mental health panel discussion.

The theme for the celebration was “Jubilee – A Celebrational Fair to Promote Healthy Living,” with a specific focus on mental health awareness. Rolynn Wilson, the Weekend Evening Anchor for 8News, moderated a panel discussion emphasizing the importance of mental health, particularly within the Black community.

Dr. Nancy Boykin, the chief operating officer and chief nursing officer for HCA Retreat Doctors’ Hospital, highlighted that all the vendors at the event were focused on mental health, wellness, and self-improvement. The goal was to address the stigma surrounding mental health and provide resources to the community to support those in need.

Partners for the event included HCA Virginia healthcare professionals as well as community leaders from HCA Virginia’s Black Colleague Network and WHOA Behavioral Health.
