Empowering Young Women in STEM: Maria Regina High School’s Inaugural Science Fair Showcases Students’ Talent and Interest in the Sciences

Maria Regina High School in Hartsdale recently held its first-ever Science Fair, showcasing the scientific talents of the students at the all-girls Catholic high school. The two-day exhibition took place at the school’s iconic Hartsdale campus and featured presentations that demonstrated the students’ critical thinking, innovation, and intellectual curiosity.

Principal Maria Carozza-McCaffrey (’99) congratulated the winners and participants for their hard work and amazing achievements, emphasizing the students’ interest and talent in the sciences. Reena Varna (P’17), chairperson of Maria Regina’s Science Department, recognized the importance of encouraging girls’ interest in math and science, noting the underrepresentation of women in STEM fields. She highlighted the students’ dedication to their projects and their ability to think like scientists, asking relevant questions, researching, and experimenting to present their findings.

At Maria Regina, the goal is to create a growth mindset among students, and events like the Science Fair are a step in that direction. By promoting critical thinking, curiosity, and innovation in the sciences, the school aims to inspire and empower young women to pursue careers in STEM fields. The success of the inaugural Science Fair has demonstrated the students’ capabilities and their potential in the scientific community.
