EUCLID Takes the Stars: Newest Space Images Reveal Groundbreaking Discoveries and Future Mission Possibilities

The European Space Agency’s Euclid telescope has captured the largest images of the universe ever taken from space. Dr. Jesper Skottfelt, a research fellow at the Open University’s Centre for Electronic Imaging, works on the VIS technology that helps in taking these remarkable pictures. He discusses the significance of the images and what lies ahead for the mission in an interview with Tech & Science Daily.

The Open University team is dedicated to monitoring the detectors to ensure that Euclid is able to provide the best images and data possible throughout the mission’s lifetime. Astronomers are impressed with the clarity of the images taken by Euclid, which are said to be four times sharper than those taken by ground-based telescopes.

Designed and built by Airbus, Vigil will give alerts about solar storms and coronal mass ejections that could disrupt satellites in orbit and systems on Earth. Data from Vigil could provide up to four to five days of warning about incoming solar winds approaching our planet.
