Evan Stewart Adds Star Power to Oregon Ducks Receiving Corps

Oregon wide receiver compares favorably to Devonta Smith

Oregon Ducks made a surprising addition to their roster this offseason with the transfer of wide receiver Evan Stewart from Texas A&M. Stewart was ranked as the fifth overall transfer by 247Sports and recently drew comparisons to Philadelphia Eagles WR DeVonta Smith by Pro Football Focus. Smith had a successful college career at Alabama, winning the Heisman Trophy in 2020 despite his lean frame.

Smith was known for his elite speed and route-running skills that made him a nightmare for opposing defenses. Dalton Wasserman of PFF highlighted Stewart’s route-running abilities, drawing similarities to Smith. Although he only has two seasons of college experience and dealt with injuries at Texas A&M, Stewart has the potential to thrive in Oregon’s offense under coordinator Will Stein.

Stewart is expected to fill the X-receiver spot, where he can showcase his downfield playmaking ability and serve as a reliable target for quarterback Dillon Gabriel. Joining him at the top of the Ducks’ wide receiver depth chart are Tez Johnson and Traeshon Holden. Johnson is known for his speed, while Holden is a big, athletic pass catcher. This trio of receivers gives Stewart the opportunity to excel in his role as the No. 1 wideout, with the potential for big plays downfield and short targets as a checkdown option from Gabriel. Overall, Stewart’s addition adds depth and versatility to the Ducks’ receiving corps, making them a well-rounded offensive threat.
