Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Sam Tickle has signed a new four-year deal with the club, extending his contract until the summer of 2028. The 22-year-old England Under-21 international, who came through the Latics’ academy, had a breakout season in 2023-24 with 18 clean sheets in 52 appearances in all competitions.
Manager Shaun Maloney praised Tickle’s exemplary attitude both on and off the field, highlighting him as an outstanding young talent. Sporting director Gregor Rioch expressed his delight that Tickle has committed his long-term future to Wigan Athletic, emphasizing his potential and desire to play at the highest level.
Tickle’s impressive season saw him named the club’s player of the year, and he also received recognition for his performances with the England Under-21 team. He made his debut for England U21s against Luxembourg in March, keeping a clean sheet in their 7-0 victory. The club is looking forward to working with Tickle to continue his development over the coming years.
