The Steelers have announced the signing of tight end Izaiah Gathings to a one-year contract. Gathings had a workout with the team earlier in the week and was impressed by their program. Originally, he joined the Jets as an undrafted free agent after their rookie minicamp in 2023, and later spent time with the Chiefs, including a stint on their practice squad. However, he was cut by the Chiefs on May 4 without playing a regular-season game.
During his college football career at Middle Tennessee State, Gathings caught 60 passes for 559 yards and two touchdowns in 2022. Over two seasons, he played 24 games and finished with 84 receptions for 861 yards and three touchdowns. Prior to his time at Middle Tennessee State, Gathings played at Gardner-Webb, where he appeared in 24 games and had 101 receptions for 1,341 yards and 13 touchdowns.
