Small Businesses Invited to Participate in Free Two-Day Development Series in Hilo by the Department of Transportation

The Hawai’i Department of Transportation (HDOT) and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) are hosting a two-day Small Business Development Series in Hilo for small business owners interested in working with the government. This event will take place on Tuesday, April 23 at 9 a.m. and Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at 8:30 a.m., at the Hawai’i Innovation Center located at 117 Keawe Street.

The series aims to provide valuable information on marketing to government entities such as military and civilian agencies to small- and minority-owned businesses. Topics covered include registering in the System for Award Management (SAM.gov), getting certified with the federal government 8(a) Program, becoming a certified Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) and/or Small Business Enterprise (SBE). Additionally, attendees will have access to a DBE/SBE Application Workshop where they can prepare their electronic documents for their application to the DBE Program with assistance from the DBE Team.

Other topics covered will include finding state contracting information, meeting leaders from government agencies, updating marketing capability statements, financing and bonding for government contracts, veterans’ certification, and acquiring surplus property.
