Speaker from Christian Science to speak at Chautauqua Institution this Sunday | Latest news, Sports updates, Job listings

On Sunday at 1:30 p.m., Nicole Virgil, a Christian Science practitioner and public speaker, will be presenting her talk titled “Be Set Free” in Smith Wilkes Hall, located at 21 Foster Ave., Chautauqua. In her talk, Virgil will focus on universal healing precepts found in the Holy Bible, particularly in the life and teachings of Christ Jesus. She will show how these teachings can be understood and experienced by anyone through the lens of Christian Science.

Virgil will explore the concept of liberty from a Biblical perspective, discussing how people can find freedom from physical, emotional, and circumstantial restrictions that may seem beyond their control. She will share examples of healing from her own life and professional practice of Christian Science, emphasizing the Christian and scientific nature of the practice. Virgil will explain how individuals can prove the effectiveness of Christian Science for themselves, as detailed in the book “Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures” by Mary Baker Eddy, the founder of the Christian Science movement.

During her talk, Virgil will also discuss the life of Mary Baker Eddy, who taught what she believed to be original Christian healing. Eddy drew inspiration from Jesus’ teachings, particularly the statement in the Gospel of John 14:12 where Jesus says that those who believe in him will do even greater works. As a Christian Science practitioner, Virgil helps people on a daily basis through the scientific approach to prayer. She travels from her home near Chicago, Illinois, to speak to audiences as a member of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship. The event is free and open to the community; it is sponsored by First Church of Christ Scientist Jamestown and Christian Science Informal Group at Chautauqua.
