OMSI, located at 1945 SE Water Ave., is a must-visit destination for families during the rainy season in Portland. With operating hours from 9:30 am to 7 pm on Saturdays and Sundays, and from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm on Tuesdays through Fridays, OMSI offers a range of activities for visitors of all ages.
For little ones, the science playground upstairs at OMSI is a great option for days when the weather isn’t ideal. The playground features a sandbox, water experiment zone, and Discovery Lab, making it an engaging and interactive experience. For older kids and adults, there are exciting exhibits such as a display featuring three life-sized tyrannosaur skeletons and a 30-foot tunnel of dinosaur images “exploring” modern-day Portland. These exhibits are on view until Sept. 8.
One highlight not to be missed is the Laser Taylor Swift show in the Planetarium running through June. Visitors can also enjoy Theory Cafe, a popular lunch spot at OMSI that offers a variety of menu options. However, it’s important to note that outside food is also welcome at the cafe.
Overall, OMSI is highly rated by families and kids give it a 10 out of 10 for providing a great experience. However, be mindful of germ-sharing as one child tester contracted hand, foot, and mouth disease in the infant area at the museum in the past. Make sure to wear hand sanitizer and wipe down any surfaces before touching them.
