Farewell to a Minneapolis Icon: Litin’s Party Value Closes its Doors after Decades of Success

Minneapolis-based Litin’s Party Value, a family-owned business that specializes in party supplies and paper products, has announced its plans to close this summer. The decision was made due to the impacts of the pandemic and the changes in consumer shopping habits that followed.

Litin Paper Company, founded in 1947 by Don Litin, started out as a wholesale paper distribution company. Over the years, the company expanded its product offerings to include shipping and packaging, office supplies, and party supplies. In 1966, Litin’s Party Value opened its doors to the public in downtown Minneapolis and has since relocated several times. The store’s current location is at 913 Plymouth Ave. North.

Owner Ned Litin reflected on the store’s history and how it served as a one-stop shopping destination for various organizations and individuals seeking supplies for celebrations and special occasions. Despite this success, Litin stated that the pandemic disrupted plans for parties and social gatherings while drastically altering consumer shopping habits. With no specific closing date yet set, Litin’s Party Value will begin selling off its inventory on June 11th with an exact closing date likely by July’s end.
