FBI Raid on Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens’ Offices and Businesses Leaves Many Questions Unanswered

FBI Conducts Raids at Hinds County District Attorney’s Office and Business

On Wednesday morning, federal agents conducted a raid on the offices of Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens, as well as a business owned by him. The FBI executed search warrants at multiple locations, including Downtown Cigar Company on Pearl Street in Jackson and Downtown Daiquiri and Pizza.

According to the FBI, officers were carrying out the search warrants as part of an ongoing investigation. The affidavit supporting the search warrants has been sealed by the court, so no further details about the raid have been provided. However, the bureau assured that there was no threat to public safety related to the operation.

The Attorney General’s office and the Department of Public Safety were unable to provide any additional information about why this raid took place. A request for comment from the U.S. Attorney’s office also did not yield a response.

Jody Owens, who has been serving as District Attorney since 2019 and was re-elected in 2023, has not made any public comment on the matter. Before becoming DA, he worked for Senator Thad Cochran as a legal intern for the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee and held positions at the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Mississippi Office
