At the Fratelli d’Italia “Italy changes Europe” conference in Pescara, Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO of Fincantieri, shared his vision for creating Italian technology that involves small, medium, and large companies. The focus of this initiative would be on the Mediterranean region, both in terms of geopolitics and energy and defense-related sectors. Folgiero described this project as a great endeavor.
Folgiero highlighted the importance of the Mediterranean, which he called the most geopolitical sea in the world due to its numerous submarine cables, telecommunication cables, and gas pipelines running through it. He emphasized the need to protect critical infrastructures in this region. Additionally, Folgiero mentioned the potential for mining activities in the Mediterranean, which presents opportunities for economic and technological growth.
Fincantieri plans to contribute to this project by producing smaller submarines and nine-meter drones with and without crew. These technologies will be utilized by the Italian Navy to safeguard critical infrastructures in the Mediterranean. The company aims to play a significant role in defining missions that ensure the protection of key assets in the region.
