Fire devastates Butler County Health Department building, leaves community without access to healthcare services

A devastating fire broke out at the Butler County Health Department building in Greenville early Sunday morning, leaving the community without access to vital healthcare services. The blaze began around 3:30 a.m., and responding officers and firefighters declared it a general alarm fire. Despite their efforts, the building was ultimately deemed a total loss.

The state Fire Marshal’s office, local fire officials, police, and the sheriff’s department are all working together to investigate the cause of the fire. While there have been no reports of injuries or intentional acts leading up to the blaze, Greenville Police Chief Justin Lovvorn stated that the investigation is still ongoing.

At this time, residents are advised to contact other nearby health departments for assistance until a new location can be found for Butler County’s services. The Alabama Department of Public Health is actively searching for a temporary solution to ensure that residents receive the care they need. Contact information and hours for all county health departments can be found on their website.
