Firefighters’ Quick Response Saves Mljet National Park from Wildfire Damage

On Tuesday morning, a fire broke out in the area of the Mljet National Park, affecting low vegetation and a small area of pine forest on challenging terrain. The Croatian Fire Association (HVZ) reported that members of the Public Fire Brigade (JVP) and DVD Mljet successfully extinguished the fire.

A total of 12 firefighters from JVP Mljet and DVD Mljet, along with four fire trucks, were involved in responding to the fire. The firefighters were able to localize the fire by 6:40 a.m. and fully extinguish it by 7:30 a.m., according to the announcement by HVZ.

The prompt response and coordinated efforts of the firefighting teams helped prevent the fire from spreading further and causing more damage to the national park. Despite the challenging terrain, which made the firefighting intervention more difficult, the expertise and dedication of the firefighters led to a successful containment of the fire within a short period of time.

The Mljet National Park is a valuable natural reserve, known for its unique biodiversity and stunning landscapes. Preserving the park’s natural beauty and protecting it from wildfires is crucial in order to maintain its ecological balance and ensure its sustainability for future generations.

According to HVZ, this was not an isolated incident as wildfires have become increasingly common in Croatia due to climate change. Therefore, it is important for everyone involved in preserving nature to be aware of these risks and take necessary precautions.

Overall, this incident serves as a reminder that quick thinking, teamwork, and expertise can make all the difference in preventing wildfires from spreading further damage or causing harm to people or wildlife.
