Amber Davenport, regional clinical director for WellNow Urgent Care, shared with News 8 that burn injuries tend to increase during this holiday. To prevent injuries, she recommends being careful when lighting fireworks, standing a safe distance away and ensuring that children are not unsupervised around fireworks.

In addition to being cautious with fireworks, Davenport also advises having a first aid kit on hand in case of emergencies. If a burn occurs, she recommends applying cool, moist compresses and seeking treatment at a medical clinic. She also advises keeping an eye out for signs of heat exhaustion especially during midday when the sun is hottest. It is important to stay hydrated and avoid excessive caffeine and alcohol as they can contribute to dehydration.
