Former Bolivian President Morales Accuses Current Leader of ‘Self-Coup’ for Personal Gain

Evo Morales backs Arce in Bolivia amid “self-coup” attempt

On Saturday, former Bolivian President Evo Morales accused the current Chief Executive, Luis Arce, of orchestrating a “self-coup” aimed at boosting his popularity and possibly handing over the presidency to the military junta. Morales’ comments align with General Juan Zúñiga’s claims that the coup attempt was planned by Arce for personal gain. Zúñiga, who was recently transferred to a maximum security prison, stated that the president orchestrated the uprising to improve his image amidst the country’s chaos.

Morales also criticized Arce’s economic management, arguing that it is unfavorable compared to his own administration. He suggested that the military rebellion was a diversion tactic designed to conceal Arce’s alleged mismanagement of the country. Morales noted that there has been a lack of discussion about the shortage of fuel and dollars in Bolivia since the events unfolded.
