Dave McCarty, a former member of the 2004 Boston Red Sox World Series-winning team, passed away in Oakland, California at the age of 54. The Red Sox confirmed his death, attributing it to a “cardiac event”. McCarty was a first baseman and outfielder during his time with the Red Sox.
McCarty was part of the 2004 team reunion held at Fenway Park on April 9 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of their World Series victory. The team also paid tribute to Tim Wakefield and his wife, Stacy, who both passed away from cancer in the last six months. Kevin Youkilis, McCarty’s former teammate, remembered him fondly on social media, highlighting his qualities as a father, husband, teammate, and friend.
