Former Quarterback Malik Cunningham Switches Positions and Brings New Competition to Ravens’ Wide Receiver Group

Ravens transition former quarterback Malik Cunningham to wide receiver

In December, the Baltimore Ravens signed quarterback Malik Cunningham from the New England Patriots practice squad, reuniting him with his college teammate, Lamar Jackson. Initially, it was thought that Cunningham would compete with rookie Devin Leary for the third-string quarterback position behind Jackson and Josh Johnson. However, Cunningham has since undergone a position switch.

According to Ryan Mink’s OTA notes on the official website, Cunningham is now listed as a wide receiver on Baltimore’s roster. This means that Jackson will now be throwing passes to Cunningham, who followed him as Louisville’s starting quarterback. As far as fitting into the wide receiver depth chart, in Baltimore’s base 3-WR, 1-TE set, Zay Flowers, Rashod Bateman, and Nelson Agholor are likely starters. Devontez Walker, Deonte Harty, and Tylan Wallace are probable backups.

The depth chart becomes uncertain with Cunningham and recent signee Qadir Ismail (son of Qadry Ismail) vying for a spot on the third string. They will also have to compete with Tayvion Robinson, Sean Ryan, Dayton Wade, and Isaiah Washington for roster spots. The position switch for Cunningham adds an interesting dynamic to the Ravens’ lineup and creates more competition among the wide receiver group.

Cunningham’s new role as a wide receiver may be unfamiliar territory for him but he has shown great potential in his time at Louisville and during his brief stint with the Patriots practice squad. With this new opportunity to showcase his skills in a different position group he can prove himself as valuable asset to Ravens’ offense.

In conclusion, the signing of Malik Cunningham from New England Patriots practice squad has brought new challenges and opportunities for both him and Ravens’ lineup. His new role as a wide receiver adds more competition in this group while also creating exciting prospects for his future development within the team.
