French Woman Breaks Rope Climbing Record on Eiffel Tower, Raises Money for Cancer Prevention and Support

Anouk Garnier, a French woman, made history by breaking the world rope climbing record on Wednesday when she reached the second floor of the Eiffel Tower. Climbing 110 meters in just 18 minutes, Garnier set a new high and also raised money for cancer prevention and support.

Despite facing challenges like the weather and coordinating schedules for the project, Garnier never lost faith in achieving this monumental feat. She expressed her satisfaction and joy at accomplishing her goal and called it a crazy dream come true. This marks her as the new record holder for the highest climb, surpassing previous records set by athletes like South African Thomas Van Tonder and Danish Ida Mathilde Steensgaard.

Inspired by Steensgaard’s success, Garnier began rope climbing in 2022 after winning the world obstacle course championship for her age category. She dedicated her achievement to her family, who instilled in her the discipline of giving her best and striving for excellence in sports. Garnier’s motivation to raise money for the League Against Cancer stemmed from her mother’s battle with the disease, prompting her to contribute in her own way.

Looking ahead, Garnier plans to return to obstacle racing and will carry the Olympic torch in Marseille in May, showcasing her dedication to maintaining her fitness for the next decade. Despite the challenges she faced during the climb, Garnier’s determination and passion for pushing her limits continued to drive her towards future challenges and accomplishments.
