Fresh World, an international grocery store chain, is set to open in the long-empty grocery store at Mount Vernon Square. The company’s chief operating officer, Joshua Kim, announced that the building renovations are currently underway and the grand opening is scheduled for September 2024. This location will be the company’s fifth in Northern Virginia and third in Fairfax.
The acquisition of the 70,617-square-foot property was made by Mt. Vernon Square LLC, an affiliate of Fresh World, for $17.1 million. The shopping center also houses other retailers such as Ledo Pizza, Virginia ABC, M&T Bank, and a nail salon. Two more vacant spaces are expected to be leased by the end of the year, with one rumored to be a Korean restaurant.
Fresh World aims to provide a well-stocked international neighborhood grocery store for the locals and future customers in Mount Vernon Square. In anticipation of the grand opening, the parking lot of the shopping center will be completely repaved. The ‘Coming Soon’ banner hanging outside is a sign of the exciting changes to come in the area.
