From Family Recipe to Commercial Success: Food Lion’s Newest Red Sauce Product Launches in Hampton Roads

Food Lion in Hampton Roads will soon be selling a bottled red sauce made by Tahjere Lewis, a 24-year-old Virginia Tech graduate. Lewis’ product, Aunt Carol’s Sauce, is the result of a family recipe that he turned into a commercially available product. Food Lion is one of the largest retailers to agree to carry Lewis’ product, marking a significant milestone for his entrepreneurship journey.

Meanwhile, winemakers in the region are opening their tasting rooms for visitors as spring arrives. AmRhein’s Wine Cellars in Bent Mountain announced that its tasting room will open on April 6th, while Villa Appalaccia Winery in Patrick County opened its on March 15th and exceeded expectations. However, Stanburn Winery in Stuart revealed on social media that they will be closing after the upcoming season. Despite this closure, both the food and wine industries seem to be thriving in the region with new products like Aunt Carol’s Sauce hitting store shelves and wineries welcoming guests back for tastings and tours. These developments indicate a positive outlook for local entrepreneurs and businesses in Hampton Roads and beyond.
