From Mental Health Boon to Dangerous Delight: The Risks of Unregulated Psychedelic Products in Fairfield County and Beyond

FDA recalls mushroom products due to health concerns

In Fairfield County, Connecticut, scientists are exploring the potential benefits of psilocybin mushrooms for mental health treatment. Despite being classified as a Schedule 1 substance in the U.S. and illegal at the federal level, many municipalities and states have moved to decriminalize psilocybin use locally. Oregon has even legalized the adult use of mushrooms, with regulations requiring them to be administered within “psilocybin service centers.”

However, not all mushroom products are safe. Recently, Prophet Premium Blends had to recall their Diamond Shruumz-infused cones, chocolate bars, and gummies due to the presence of muscimol, a chemical found in mushrooms that can cause seizures, loss of consciousness, nausea, vomiting, abnormal heart rates, involuntary muscle contractions, and agitation. The recall includes all flavors and products of any date, as there have been thirty-nine reported illnesses across 20 states related to the consumption of these products. Consumers are advised to throw away any Diamond Shruumz product and contact Prophet Premium Blends with their order number to secure a refund.
