UNC baseball in the College World Series catches Roy Williams’ attention in Omaha

North Carolina basketball legend Roy Williams is a true Tar Heel-for-life. This was reaffirmed in Omaha, Nebraska, as he was spotted in the stands during the first game of the College World Series, cheering on his beloved UNC team. The matchup between No. 4 national seed North Carolina and No. 12 Virginia was an ACC showdown that Williams simply couldn’t miss.

During March Madness, Williams further solidified his status as a Chapel Hill lifer when he traveled to Tucson, Arizona to watch NC State lose in the Final Four. A viral clip captured his disappointment after a Wolfpack basket, highlighting his loyalty to the Tar Heels. It’s no surprise he made the trip to Omaha to support a team he genuinely loves.

Williams was the head coach of North Carolina for 19 years from 2003 to 2021. During his tenure, he led the Tar Heels to three championships and six Final Four appearances, losing just once in the championship game. With a coaching record of 485-163 (212-94 in the ACC) at North Carolina, Williams’ success on the court was undeniable. His overall coaching record of 903-264 cemented his legacy as one of the greatest coaches in college basketball history prior to coaching at Kansas for 15 seasons, another college basketball powerhouse
