From Wall Street to Academia: Two Journalists Swap Beats and Become Experts in Their Fields

Harriet Torry, a seasoned reporter with 14 years of experience at the Wall Street Journal, has been assigned to cover the Western U.S. economy from Houston, Texas. She previously focused on consumer-related stories for the U.S. economy from the Washington, D.C. bureau and has covered the Federal Reserve in the past. Torry originally joined the Journal in Frankfurt in 2010 as a financial reporter before moving to Berlin to report on the German government and economy during the eurozone sovereign debt crisis.

On the other hand, Chris Roush is currently serving as Dean of School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut after previously working as Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. Roush has an extensive background in business journalism and has worked for various publications such as Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is also an author having written “Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication” textbook as well as a biography titled “Thinking Things Over,” which delves into the life of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
