G-7 Summit: Western Leaders Pledge Support for Ukraine against Russia, Tensions Expected to Rise

G7 support for Zelensky could lead to renewed conflict in Ukraine | World News

During the G-7 summit held in Apulia, leaders from major western powers pledged their support to Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky in his fight against Russia. The United States, leading the EU, has promised a substantial aid package and military hardware to target the Russian logistics base in Crimea. With France set to deploy troops and the UK providing long-range missiles, tensions are expected to rise on the Ukraine front in the coming days.

Zelensky secured significant backing during the summit, including a USD 50 billion aid package and USD 225 million in approved military hardware from the US Congress. This assistance is aimed at weakening Russia’s presence in Crimea and exposing a potential vulnerability for Russian President Vladimir Putin. On the sidelines of the summit, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a positive meeting with Zelensky and received assurances from US President Joe Biden about Washington’s commitment to a strong relationship with India amid rising challenges posed by China in the Indo-Pacific.

In response to this support for Ukraine, Putin has threatened to supply weapons to nations and asymmetrical forces opposed to the US-led coalition. The situation remains unstable, particularly with ongoing conflicts such as the Israeli war in Gaza. Putin has not ruled out using nuclear weapons if he perceives Russian sovereignty as being under threat, adding further tension to an already volatile global landscape.
