Garden City Public Schools Science Research Class Achieves Remarkable Success at Long Island and New York State Science Congress

The Freshman Science Research class at Garden City Public Schools recently participated in the Long Island Science Congress and achieved remarkable success. The students competed against 46 other schools and approximately 860 students. Among them, two groups stood out for their exceptional work.

The first group, consisting of Jack Armstrong, Arya Rad, and William Schwarz, earned a spot at the New York State Science Congress Junior Division in Syracuse after placing at the top of their category at the Long Island Science Congress. Their group received an Honorable Mention award for their outstanding research on a topic related to science.

The second group, comprised of Taylor Maguire, Julia Flaherty, and Susanna Ryan, also achieved Highest Honors at the Long Island Science Congress. Their project titled “Examining the Impact of Exposure to Air Freshener Compounds on Drosophila melanogaster Behavior,” earned them two additional prestigious awards: the Daniel Wilson Memorial Award and the Mel Cowgill Award. These honors reflect the dedication and hard work of these students towards scientific inquiry and exploration.

Overall, both groups displayed their awards from the Long Island Science Congress proudly, showcasing the exceptional talent and scientific inquiry skills within the program. Their success at both regional and state levels demonstrates their commitment to research and scientific exploration.
