Government Announces Record-Breaking Public Employment Offer in 2024

Sánchez calls for over 220,000 civil servant positions in public employment sector

The government has announced that it will approve a public employment offer for 2024 at the Council of Ministers on Tuesday. This offer, which will consist of more than 40,000 positions, is the largest in history and represents a major push for public employment. Since 2018, the executive led by Pedro Sánchez has already created over 220,000 civil service positions, with an emphasis on increasing public employment opportunities as a priority.

The distribution of the offer includes over 20,000 open positions in the General State Administration (AGE) and 10,600 positions for internal promotion. Furthermore, there will be 6,520 open positions and 2,161 for internal promotion in the Armed Forces, State Security Forces, and Corps. In total, the offer will include 40,121 positions.

Despite criticism from some unions, the government remains committed to increasing the percentage of public employment in Spain’s labor market to align with OECD standards. Negotiations are underway to ensure that public employees receive fair compensation and maintain their purchasing power. The recent salary increase for civil servants and upcoming public employment offer demonstrates the government’s commitment to its workforce.

In addition to creating more job opportunities through public employment offers like this one, the current administration is also focused on improving working conditions for civil servants through negotiations about fair compensation and better working hours. Overall, these efforts reflect a key focus on expanding public employment opportunities and investing in Spain’s workforce.
