Nate Benforado from the Southern Environmental Law Center highlights the positive impact of Virginia’s participation in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative in reducing emissions. The Clean Economy Act established a deadline for Virginia to eliminate carbon emissions from utilities by 2050, and while Governor Youngkin has withdrawn Virginia from the initiative and abandoned emissions standards for automobiles, this goal remains in place.
