Family of Pro Golfer Grayson Murray Reveals Cause of Death as Suicide

Grayson Murray, a 30-year-old PGA Tour golfer from Raleigh, North Carolina, tragically passed away by suicide on Saturday morning. The news was announced by his family on Sunday. Just one day earlier, he had withdrawn from the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.

Grayson’s parents, Eric and Terry, expressed their gratitude to the golf community for their support during this difficult time. In a statement released by the PGA Tour, they acknowledged that life had not been easy for their son but stated that despite his decision to take his own life, they believe he is now at peace.

Throughout the tournament, many golfers wore black and red pins in their caps as a tribute to Murray. PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan emphasized the need for supporting both the grieving family and the players who will carry a heavy heart in the wake of Grayson’s passing.

In an interview with Golf Digest after his victory at the 2024 Sony Open, Murray opened up about his struggles with anxiety and depression. Despite these challenges, he continued to push forward in pursuit of his dreams. At the Charles Schwab Challenge, he posted a strong performance in the opening round but struggled in the second round before withdrawing due to illness.

Eric and Terry Murray urged people to remember Grayson’s legacy by showing kindness to one another. They suggested that this could be a meaningful way to honor his memory while also supporting those who are struggling with similar issues themselves.
