Green Kornet Keeps Boston Celtics Frontcourt Strong as Free Agency Begins; Kornet’s Re-Signing Implies Focus on Perimeter Shooters over Big Men

The Boston Celtics have re-signed Luke Kornet to a one-year deal, keeping the “Green Kornet” in Boston for another season. The 7-foot-2 center was a key depth piece for the Celtics last season, averaging 5.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, and one block per game. With Kristaps Porzingis sidelined to start the season due to injury, Kornet is expected to have a more prominent role next season.

Kornet’s re-signing comes as the Celtics have six free agents on the market. Xavier Tillman, Oshae Brissett, Svi Mykhailiuk, JD Davison, Drew Peterson, and Neemias Queta are all either unrestricted or restricted free agents. The Celtics wasted no time in locking in Kornet just as the free agency period began, ensuring continuity and chemistry in their frontcourt for the upcoming season. Kornet’s return will be crucial in providing depth and stability to the Celtics, especially in Porzingis’ absence.

The signing of Kornet also has implications for the other free agents on the roster. With Kornet back on board, the Celtics may not feel as much pressure to sign another big man like Porzingis or DeAndre Jordan. They may instead focus on adding more wings and perimeter shooters to their roster.

Kornet’s re-signing is also a testament to his strong performance last season. Despite being a backup center, he was able to contribute significant minutes and provided valuable depth for the team. His ability to score from midrange and block shots made him a valuable asset on defense.

Overall, Kornet’s re-signing is an important move for the Boston Celtics as they look to build their roster for next season. It provides continuity and chemistry in their frontcourt while allowing them to focus on adding other pieces that will help them compete at a high level in the Eastern Conference.
