Helsinki Stock Exchange Soars with Over 1% Increase in General Index to Kick Off Second Half of Year

In the second half of 2024, Helsinki’s stock exchange began with a strong performance. The general index of the exchange rose by about 1.1 percent to 10,050.26 points in the afternoon. The most actively traded share was Nordea, up by 1.6 percent with nearly 20 million shares exchanged. Technology consulting company Solteq saw the biggest gains with a 10.1 percent increase, while biotechnology company Nightingale Health experienced a 9.1 percent decline.

In other news, IT service company Tietoevry extended its strategic evaluation and sale of the Tech Services business, with more information to be provided by the time of the third quarter results report on October 24th. Kemira signed a contract to acquire the reactivation business in Great Britain from Purton Carbons Limited, marking its first step into the activated carbon market. Lemonsoft announced it would purchase software developer Applirentin in a deal worth approximately EUR 2.3 million and Herantis Pharma received funding for a phase 1b clinical trial from the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. Telko, a subsidiary of Aspo, completed the acquisition of Swed Handling AB in Sweden and Cargotec split from Kalmar becoming its own listed company on the stock exchange’s main list with Kepler Cheuvreux updating the target price for Cargotec to EUR 32 euros . US Index Futures predicted a bullish opening for Wall Street.

Overall, Helsinki’s stock market continues to show signs of strength as companies make strategic moves and secure funding for their operations and research initiatives.
