A special ceremony was held in Stafford County, Virginia, to pay tribute to two brave brothers who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in World War II. The event brought together family and friends of the fallen soldiers, as well as members of the community, to honor their memory.
One of the attendees was Marshal Boutchyard, a distant cousin of Cpl. Mercer Boutchyard and Pfc. Marvin Boutchyard. He was deeply moved by the ceremony and felt compelled to learn more about his relatives’ service. As a result, he and another relative, Darien Boutchyard, were able to uncover some fascinating details about their ancestors’ bravery on the battlefield.
Pfc. Boutchyard was stationed in Europe during World War II and was part of the D-Day invasion. He survived against all odds and played a crucial role in freeing several towns from Nazi occupation on the first day of battle. Unfortunately, he died a week later from wounds he suffered in combat. Cpl. Boutchyard also served in Europe but met his end during the Battle of Okinawa when he succumbed to injuries sustained on the battlefield.
Stafford Community Engagement Director Shannon Eubanks played a significant role in creating this memorial honoring those who gave their lives for our country. She researched more about the Boutchyard family after visiting the Normandy American Cemetery in France and discovering that one of her relatives had been buried there – Marvin Boutchyard – an unusual name that she had never seen before. Eubanks knew she had to do something to tell his story and bring attention to his bravery on the battlefield.
As for Marshal Boutchyard, who is currently serving with the Army National Guard, he plans to keep his family’s legacy alive even while abroad this summer by continuing their work towards bringing peace and justice for all people around the world.”
