Hoosier Veterans: PACT Act of 2022 Brings Significant Increase in VA Health Care Enrollment

The PACT Act of 2022 has brought a significant increase in the number of Indiana military veterans enrolling in Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) health care. This rise was over 37% in just one year, and it was due to the act expanding direct access to VA health care for veterans who were exposed to toxic substances during their military service.

As a result, there has been an increase in enrollment over the past year, with 7,141 more Hoosier veterans now enrolled in VA health care. Indiana’s rate of increase surpasses the national average, indicating the positive impact this act has had on providing veterans with easier access to the care they need.

While both of Indiana’s U.S. senators voted in favor of the bill, U.S. Sen. Todd Young (R-Ind.) emphasized the importance of oversight to prevent the VA from becoming overwhelmed. To address this concern, the VA nationally hired over 61,000 employees last year, which is their highest number of employees ever.

Moving forward, it is crucial to monitor the implementation of the PACT Act to ensure that veterans continue to receive the care and support they deserve. This act has made a significant difference in expanding access to VA health care for veterans in Indiana and across the country, helping to improve their overall well-being and quality of life.

In conclusion, the PACT Act has significantly increased enrollment among Hoosier veterans in VA health care and expanded direct access for those who were exposed to toxic substances during their service. It is essential that we continue to monitor its implementation and ensure that our veterans receive the support they need as they transition back into civilian life after serving our country so bravely.
