Intensive Care Nurse Siobhan Taylor Breaks World Record in Powerlifting: Defying Injury and Becoming a Global Champion

Intensive care nurse secures world powerlifting championship

Intensive care nurse Siobhan Taylor from Haverhill, Suffolk recently made history as the world champion in powerlifting with a record-breaking bench press. Six years ago, she started powerlifting to overcome a back injury and it quickly became her passion. She represented Great Britain in the 84kg Masters 1 category in Austin, Texas where her 185kg bench press not only won her the title but also set a new British and Commonwealth record.

Taylor was already a Commonwealth and All England Champion for powerlifting, as well as British and European Champion on the equipped bench. She was ecstatic about her win and was surprised to find out that her bench press was 22kg heavier than the previous British record in her weight category. She expressed gratitude towards her colleagues who gathered to watch a live stream of the competition at the hospital where she works as an intensive care nurse.

Taylor is now looking forward to defending her title at the upcoming European Championships. Despite her big win, she has kept celebrations simple with just a cup of tea.
