In Israel, the Ministry of Transport is inviting entrepreneurs to submit proposals for two pilot projects aimed at easing traffic congestion. The projects include a trackless train and sea shuttle, which are expected to relieve pressure on roads across the country. The sea shuttles will travel between ports and docks in cities such as Ashkelon, Ashdod, Netanya, Jaffa, Tel Aviv, Hadera, Haifa, and Acre. Companies involved in development will need to provide details on the type of sea transport, speed, capacity and comfort levels of the shuttles.
The proposed “wheel trains” are based on successful operations in China and are planned to be launched by current public transport companies. Transport Minister Miri Regev has been a proponent of these projects since her previous term and has decided to resume work on them to improve mobility in Israel. The aim is to offer new convenient transportation options to passengers, change their travel habits and reduce travel times between different parts of the country.
