Italian Coach Roberto De Zerbi Switches Clubs: Joining Marseille After Successful Stint at Brighton

Marseille and De Zerbi reach agreement in principle

In September 2022, Roberto De Zerbi left Brighton and took over as the manager of Marseille. The French club announced the move on Monday, with De Zerbi taking over from Jean-Louis Gasset. The 45-year-old Italian coach had a successful time at Brighton, leading them to an 11th place finish in his second season in charge.

De Zerbi’s move to Marseille is seen as a significant achievement for the club, who finished eighth in the league last season and missed out on European competition. Before joining Marseille, De Zerbi had been linked with a potential move to Chelsea, but ultimately decided to take up the role at Stade Velodrome.

During his time at Brighton, De Zerbi led the team to an FA Cup semi-final and secured Europa League qualification for the first time in the club’s history. His coaching abilities and experience will be valuable assets for Marseille as they look to achieve success in the upcoming season.
