Italian Player Jasmine Paolini Makes History at Wimbledon with Win Over Bianca Andreescu

Paolini advances to fourth round after defeating Andreescu

Italian player Jasmine Paolini made history by advancing to the fourth round of Wimbledon for the first time in her career after defeating Bianca Andreescu. The seventh-seeded player won 7-6 (7-4) 6-1 in a match played under the roof on Court One.

Both players displayed strong attacking play in the first set, but Andreescu struggled to maintain her level of play against Paolini. The victory marked a significant milestone for Paolini, who had never won a match at Wimbledon before this year. She will face either Madison Keys or Marta Kostyuk in the last 16.

Paolini’s win over Andreescu comes after their meeting in the French Open third round just five weeks ago, where the Italian also emerged victorious. Andreescu, who has been plagued by injuries since winning the US Open in 2019, matched Paolini’s shot-making in the first set but struggled in the second, losing the final six games of the match.

Reflecting on her win, Paolini expressed her delight at playing a good match and emphasized her aggressive playing style to avoid having to run extensively. In other results, Emma Navarro defeated Diana Shnaider 2-6 6-3 6-4 and will face either Coco Gauff or Sonay Kartal in the next round.
