India’s bowler Jasprit Bumrah made a name for himself during the Super Eight phase of the tournament, leading his team to victory and securing the top spot in their group. Over four days and three different grounds, Bumrah took an impressive six wickets for just 49 runs.
Bumrah was particularly effective in the match against Afghanistan in Barbados, where he used change-of-pace deliveries to dismiss key batters. He got rid of Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Hazratullah Zazai early on, before also removing Najibullah Zadran with just seven runs conceded.
In the next match against Bangladesh in Antigua, Bumrah again showed off his skill and talent at the death. With his off-pace deliveries, he got rid of opposition skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto and Rishad Hossain, finishing with figures of 2/13.
In India’s final Super Eights match against Australia in St Lucia, Bumrah once again proved to be the difference maker. Despite Australia scoring heavily from their batsmen, Bumrah’s expertise at the death overs was crucial. His off-cutter in the 17th over led to Travis Head’s dismissal, effectively sealing India’s top-spot finish in the group. Overall, Bumrah’s consistent and impactful performances throughout the tournament made him a standout player and helped lead India to success.
