Kansas City Chiefs receiver Rashee Rice is currently taking part in the team’s voluntary offseason program, which is being held virtually until practice commences on May 20. During this time, he has been training with quarterback Patrick Mahomes in Texas.
Mahomes has shared videos of himself catching passes from Rice at a high school in the Fort Worth area. He has mentioned that he has been working with Rice consistently throughout the offseason and plans to continue their work as the legal process unfolds.
During Phase One of the team’s offseason program, Mahomes arranges on-field practices three times a week, followed by meetings with position coaches. The future of Rice with the team was uncertain until coach Andy Reid addressed the local media on Monday.
Reid stated that he had spoken with Rice and emphasized the importance of learning from the situation. Despite facing eight felony charges after being involved in a high-speed crash in Dallas last month, Rice had an impressive rookie season, leading the team’s wide receivers with 938 yards and seven touchdowns on 79 receptions. The Chiefs are hopeful that he will be a key player starting alongside Hollywood Brown.
The team will wait for law enforcement to take action before making any decisions regarding Rice’s status with the team.
