King Milling Company Completes $47 Million Flour Mill Expansion Project, Revolutionizing West Michigan’s Grain Processing Industry

The King Milling Company in Lowell, Michigan recently completed a $47 million expansion project. The new six-floor flour mill is a monolithic concrete building that started construction in the summer of 2022 and finished in the winter. This fully insulated mill utilizes LED lighting, premium-efficient motors, and a heat recovery system to reduce fossil fuel use during colder temperatures.

The celebration for the completion of the expansion project included speeches from King Milling Chairman and CEO Brian Doyle, President Jim Doyle, MDARD Economic and Community Development Specialist Jodi Gruner, Lowell City Manager Mike Burns, and others. The state-of-the-art mill is now the most modern in West Michigan, thanks to the $47 million investment. The project received a 12-year, 50% tax abatement from the city of Lowell and a $250,000 grant from the Michigan Commission of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Brian Doyle expressed gratitude for the community support they have received throughout the project. King Milling Company has been family owned and operated since 1890, milling wheat for a variety of flours used by bakers and food processors across Michigan and nationwide. As one of only six remaining flour mills in the state, King Milling continues to uphold its legacy of quality and sustainability in the industry.
