Lake Erie College Secures $500,000 for Health-Science Initiatives

Lake Erie College has recently received a significant boost to its health-science initiatives with the announcement of a $500,000 award from the Ohio Senate. This funding, part of the Capital Budget proposal Senate Bill 292, will support the college in renovating and expanding lab spaces, introducing new majors, and prioritizing the addition of an exercise science program. The goal is to complement existing health science offerings and provide pathways for students interested in careers such as physical and exercise therapy, sports medicine, and more.

The investment in campus facilities reflects the college’s commitment to offering high-quality, in-demand programs that prepare graduates for success in the health care sector. President Jennifer Schuller expressed gratitude for the support of State Rep. Jamie Callender and State Sen. Jerry Cirino who played key roles in securing this funding for Lake Erie College.

Lake Erie College is planning to begin the search for founding faculty members in the coming months and launch the exercise science program in the fall of 2025. Johnathan Tedesco, dean of the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, highlighted that the new major will build on Lake Eria
