Lakers Eyeing Bronny James: Could the NBA Draft Bring Father and Son Together?

The 19-year-old Bronny James has sparked growing speculation about declaring for the 2024 NBA draft, with focus now shifting to which team might select him. Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium revealed on The Pat McAfee Show that the Los Angeles Lakers are interested in drafting James, but they have not specified whether they would use a first- or second-round pick on him. Other teams are also being considered as potential suitors throughout the draft process.

Despite concerns over a cardiac incident during a USC practice that was caused by a congenital heart defect, ESPN reports that Bronny James has been cleared by the NBA’s Fitness to Play Panel and is now draft-eligible. However, his ability to transition to the NBA remains uncertain after struggling at USC, where he averaged just 4.8 points on 36.6 percent shooting, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game in his appearances for the Trojans.

The Lakers hold the 17th and 55th picks in the 2024 draft, making them a possible destination for James if he declares. LeBron James’ desire to play alongside his son Bronny is well known, and he has openly expressed his wish to play with both Bronny and Bryce in the future. Despite this interest from their father, it remains unclear whether either of them will declare for the upcoming draft.
