Late Season Struggles: Inclement Weather Hinders Alpine Competitions

Despite the calendar officially turning over to spring almost two weeks ago, winter continues to hold a firm grip on the European Alps. This has led to unfavorable conditions for late-season competitions taking place in the region following the end of the World Cup season. One of the events affected by this inclement weather was the Livigno 2024 FIS Park & Pipe Junior World Championships for slopestyle and big air.

The competitions in Livigno saw some harsh weather conditions throughout the week, culminating in the cancellation of the big air finals on Saturday due to unsafe competition conditions. However, most of the scheduled competitions were able to award results, with slopestyle finals taking place on Wednesday. Snowboard big air podiums were awarded based on qualification results from earlier rounds, and women’s freeski big air finals were able to be held in full.

Unfortunately, the men’s freeski big air competition could not be completed due to the weather preventing any phases of the competition from taking place.
