Maduro’s Obstacles Threaten Fair Election in Venezuela: Brazil Calls for Cooperation to Support Democracy

The Brazilian government has expressed concern about the Venezuelan electoral process following actions by dictator Nicolás Maduro to interfere in the registration of opposition candidates. The Brazilian government questioned the lack of an official explanation for the obstacles faced by opposition candidates in registering for the presidential elections in Venezuela. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Brazil is closely monitoring the situation and is ready to cooperate with the international community to support democracy in Venezuela.

The opposition in Venezuela reported that a candidate nominated by the Democratic Unitary Platform was prevented from registering for the election by the Chavista government. This action was seen as not in line with the agreements made in Barbados and has not been officially explained. Despite these obstacles, Brazil reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Venezuela in achieving normalcy in its political life and strengthening democracy in the country.

Last year, a Barbados Agreement aimed to pave the way for transparent and democratic elections in Venezuela, with Maduro’s regime agreeing to lift sanctions if democratic elections were held. However, Maduro’s regime has been accused of preventing opposition candidates from participating in the upcoming election through various maneuvers, including false registrations from supporters who collaborate with Maduro. The fairness of the election has been questioned, with accusations of accepting registrations from false opposition candidates who collaborate with Maduro.

Brazil remains against sanctions on Venezuela, as they believe it will only harm innocent people who are already suffering due to economic crisis and political instability caused by Maduro’s regime. Despite concerns over fairness, international community is closely monitoring situation and offering support to ensure democratic elections take place without interference from government or other groups that could undermine free and fair electoral process.

In conclusion, despite announcements of upcoming presidential elections on July 28th, concerns over fairness persist due to actions taken by Nicolás Maduro’s regime to hinder opposition candidates from participating freely and democratically.
